Denomination: African Methodist Episcopal Church (Methodist → Protestant)Mother Bethel’s mission is simple: to care for people in every way—spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, and even in how we live in our communities—by sharing Christ’s message of freedom through both our words and our actions.
Our story began in 1791 with the purchase of a small piece of land. More than 200 years and four church buildings later, Mother Bethel is still a vibrant force, lifting up spiritual, social, and civic causes that matter to African Americans and to all people seeking hope and justice.
And just as it has from the beginning, Mother Bethel keeps its doors open to everyone—especially those whom society has too often overlooked or pushed aside.
